Flagstaff Needs a New Hospital

What is Prop 480?

Flagstaff voters will get a chance to vote for Prop 480 on their ballot for the November 7th Special Election. Prop 480 will authorize the building of a new state-of-the-art hospital for Northern Arizona. This hospital will be privately funded and create no new taxes. The election will be an all-mail election, meaning every voter in Flagstaff will receive a ballot in the mail beginning on October 11th. There is voting information listed below, and you can get more information on the City of Flagstaff’s website here.

Why build a new hospital?

The existing hospital, Flagstaff Medical Center, is too small, too crowded, and too antiquated. It simply cannot keep up with the demands of a growing and aging population.

Because of that, patients have experienced long wait times at the emergency room, crowded patient conditions, and too often the unfortunate instances of patients being turned away and sent to Phoenix or Las Vegas for treatment.

With the population of Northern Arizona projected to double by 2050, these problems will only get worse. Therefore, a larger hospital is needed in order to provide the best access to the highest quality care.

What are some of the additional benefits of Prop 480?

Prop 480 will bring thousands of high-paying jobs to Flagstaff, including union construction. According to an independent economic analysis for the city, Prop 480 will generate nearly $250 million in economic growth for Flagstaff. Furthermore, the project would boost tax revenue for the city by nearly $4 million annually to help fund important programs throughout the city.
